Deoxyribonucleic acid (abbreviated DNA) is the genetic code of life. Its spiraling double-helix structure, which looks like a tall thin twisting ladder, is symbolic of what makes us biologically human and is something that we all share. Today the graphic representation of DNA is used to symbolize the latest in research, especially with respect to unlocking the human genome, and also the science that underlies our common heritage. Few people in the world have actually made genetic research their profession but a DNA tattoo can also represent the more universal notion of membership in the human species.
