Moving Ladders - tutorial by Alex Cole This is a way of making a ladder appear to move (I had to work this out for my new mod). First you decide what you want the ladder on and make that. For this example, I am having it on a rotating circle (as it appears in the mod):
Then make another brush inside this one, the same shape but smaller, to make into the ladder (I have put mine sticking out the top so you can see it). Make this new brush a ladder entity:
Now select your first brush and make a dent into it in one side (move it and carve it or clip it). This should go in just far enough to go into the ladder (do not carve the ladder):
I have removed the piece I carved out and made it into the ladder texture - make sure it is thin enough not to cover all the ladder entity. If you have not done that, make a ladder textured block to go into your space. Put them in and its time to make them move. Put an origin texture (if required - mine is around the origin so I will not bother - you also wouldn't need one if it didn't rotate) down the middle then make your original block into a moving entity and your ladders into another one (set so the blue is invisible) name them the same thing so when they are activated they will move together:
Now, when the item moves, you will still be able to climb the ladders. I'm not sure how well this works if you are climbing the ladders as they are moving - it should work, I have only tested it with climbing up them, moving the thing, then climbing down, as the button is on the top. You can now also modify it any way you like - I have put a grate round the ladders and an activating button the top (also note I have put the ladder entity back down):
I have wanted some form of moving ladder - as I know other people have - for a while. This isnt a perfect solution but its the best I could find and it works for me - have fun moving ladders.
