Env_Beam - see also Env_Laser
  • Various types of "beam" effects -- lasers, electricity
  • Uses a sprite to determine appearance of beam

Env_Beverage

Env_Blood
Env_Bubbles
  • Env_Bubbles is the only Env entity which is Brush type; all the others are Point type entities.
Env_Explosion
  • Explosion effect
  • Optional damage, smoke, etc.
  • Goes well with Env_Shake

Env_Fade

Env_Funnel
  • Generates luminous dots in a funnel pattern
Env_Global
  • Handles entity states between linked levels. Example --

  • A warning siren sounds -- this is cancelled when the player does something
  • You have since added another map, and want to know if the new map should be honking or not. Here's how --
  • Create a global variable (or "State" as Valve calls them) to keep track of the status -- when you load the map, it checks the state to see if the siren should be on or not. -- Tony Newton <adna@xtra.co.nz>
Env_Glow - see also Sprites
  • Causes glowing aura, useful for making lights look more realistic
Env_Laser

Env_Message

  • Sends text message to screen
Env_Render
  • Assigns rendering properties to targetted entity -- change visibility, FX, etc.

Env_Sound
  • Changes the way sounds are processed
  • e.g. big room, small enclosed space, etc.
  • Does not actually generate sounds

Env_Spark
  • Creates sparks
  • Sparks are a variety of sprite, with a spark sound

Env_Sprite - see Sprites page

  • Sprites are two-dimensional images
  • Sprites always face the player - this means that some sprites will appear strange and unconvincing if viewed from the "wrong" direction, for instance the "fire" sprite looks wrong if viewed from above

  • Note that Env_Beam works in conjunction with a sprite entity
  • Many entities use sprites ... e.g. the RPG "red spot" is a sprite
